Overview

Boiler water treatment protects steam-generating equipment from oxygen pitting, scale deposition, and carryover, the three primary failure modes that reduce boiler efficiency and force unplanned outages. In LNG plants, petrochemical complexes, and power stations, steam system reliability is essential for process heating, turbine drive, and utility operations. Internal treatment chemistry is selected based on boiler pressure, feedwater quality, and condensate return conditions.

Oxygen Scavengers

Chemical scavengers that remove dissolved oxygen from boiler feedwater to prevent pitting corrosion of boiler tubes, drums, and condensate piping.

  • Catalysed Sodium Sulphite, standard oxygen scavenger for low- and medium-pressure boilers (<60 bar), fast reaction with cobalt catalyst
  • Carbohydrazide, volatile oxygen scavenger suitable for medium- to high-pressure systems, decomposes to non-corrosive products
  • Filming & passivating scavenger, provides both O₂ removal and metal surface protection
  • Food-grade oxygen scavenger, for boilers in F&B and pharmaceutical applications

Scale Inhibitors

Internal treatment chemicals that prevent hardness scale deposition on boiler heat transfer surfaces, maintaining efficiency and preventing tube failures.

  • Coordinated Phosphate, TSP/DSP phosphate programme for medium- to high-pressure boilers, controls calcium and magnesium precipitation
  • All-Polymer, phosphate-free scale control using crystal modification and dispersion, suitable for high-purity feedwater systems
  • Chelant (EDTA/NTA), solubilises hardness ions to prevent scale, used in high-pressure boilers with high-quality feedwater

Condensate Treatment

Volatile amines that protect condensate return lines from carbonic acid and oxygen corrosion by raising pH and forming protective films.

  • Filming Amines, forms a hydrophobic barrier on condensate pipe surfaces, effective against both CO₂ and O₂ attack
  • Neutralising Amines, volatile amine blends that raise condensate pH to neutralise carbonic acid; grade selected by distribution ratio to match system geometry and condensate return length

Alkalinity Builders

Chemicals for maintaining boiler water alkalinity and pH within operating limits specified by boiler OEM guidelines.

  • Caustic Soda (NaOH), primary alkali for pH control in coordinated phosphate and all-volatile treatment programmes
  • Sodium Phosphate (TSP/DSP), trisodium and disodium phosphate for buffering and residual phosphate maintenance

Sludge Conditioners

Dispersants that keep precipitated solids mobile and prevent adherent sludge deposits on boiler internals, facilitating removal during blowdown.

  • Polymeric Dispersant, synthetic co-polymers that modify crystal structure and disperse iron oxide and calcium phosphate sludge
  • Lignin-based, natural polymer dispersant for low-pressure firetube and industrial boiler applications
