Linear alpha-olefin (LAO) adalah olefin rantai lurus berkemurnian tinggi dengan ikatan rangkap terminal. LAO menjadi building block penting untuk polyolefin comonomer, synthetic lubricant base stock, surfactant intermediate, dan berbagai turunan kimia industri lainnya.

Ikhtisar

Linear alpha-olefin (LAO) adalah hidrokarbon rantai lurus dengan ikatan rangkap terminal yang reaktif (CH2=CH—), diproduksi melalui chain growth ethylene menggunakan teknologi Ziegler termodifikasi. Posisi ikatan rangkap terminal ini membedakan LAO dari olefin internal atau bercabang. Perbedaan ini memungkinkan reaksi selektif termasuk oligomerization, hydroformylation (oxo synthesis), epoxidation, sulfonation, dan amination. LAO tersedia dalam grade pure-cut tunggal maupun rentang nomor karbon campuran, masing-masing sesuai untuk aplikasi kimia end-use yang berbeda.

Panjang rantai karbon menentukan aplikasi utamanya. Rantai pendek (C6–C8) mendominasi penggunaan sebagai polyolefin comonomer. Rantai menengah (C10) menjadi feedstock utama untuk sintesis synthetic lubricant PAO. Rantai panjang (C12–C18) menjadi dasar bagi surfactant dan detergent biodegradable. Campuran C20+ digunakan untuk aplikasi khusus, termasuk synthetic drilling fluid dan alternatif wax.
